maybe once a month, maybe a bit more frequently, I end up googling what I’d need for the AT. I read my way through a half-dozen links, making mental checklists of what I already have and what I’d need. And eventually my wanderlust sobers up enough to remember that I’ll never have the handful of months set aside for a thru-hike, never be completely satisfied with a section-hike, and never be comfortable with the financial drain. I wouldn’t want to blog about it, or check in every other day with anybody, or worry about the battery charge and safety of my phone or camera, or think about the temporarily abandoned responsibilities. I doubt I’ll ever really do it. But I think it might make me happy.
